Subject: Concern About AI-Generated Art and Artist Rights

Dear chat gpt or open ai company,

I am writing to express my concern about AI-generated art imitating the unique styles of artists and studios, such as Studio Ghibli. Many artists spend years developing their craft, and AI tools that replicate their work without permission can undermine their efforts and livelihood.

I believe AI should be used ethically and not as a tool for copying existing artists’ styles without consent. I urge you to implement stronger protections, such as:

  1. Preventing AI from generating images in the style of specific artists.
  2. Ensuring AI tools do not train on copyrighted artwork without proper licensing.
  3. Providing transparency about how AI models are trained.

As a supporter of ethical AI, I hope you take these concerns seriously and make changes that respect artists’ rights.

Sincerely,
Sanskruti

I think it’s fantastic machines are able to do this now.

I think artists should move on and create something original, instead of repeating the same style over and over.

If a style is used so much a machine can learn from it, it’s time for that artist to do something else …

… or start directing the machine!

What next, go back to ploughing fields by hand?

There is no easy answer here.

While it is indeed an issue that might nerf incentives for artists in the tradicional sense, there will also be born new forms of art where artists themselves were unable before to go further beyond their unique but limited capabilities.

On the other hand, industralization didn’t kill gourmet chefs and local restaurants. People still pay a hefty amount of money for hand made food instead of food as tasty or similar made by mass production methods.

Again, we are still walking on thin ice here, but I think in its due time we will eventually reach a balance on how both sides can coexist.

An artist has the rights over their personal creation, but does not have any rights over creative works that are derived from ideas within their creation, created by other entities and within fair use.

Let’s stop pandering to artists! What makes them so special?

If you are a middle aged person still rendering anime by hand, maybe consider moving on and doing something else? Yes, we respect your talent, but I’m sure you are capable of many other things and now we have a more productive way to render such images for general use, perhaps sell your first editions at the gallery instead?
