I use ChatGPT Work in a desktop web browser to edit LaTeX documents and generate PDFs. I want the latest compiled PDF to appear in the right-hand side pane immediately, while the task continues, and to stay current after subsequent revisions.
The file can be generated and linked successfully, but the visible preview may stay on an older revision. A new versioned filename helps identify the new file; it does not by itself establish that the pane opened or refreshed.
Is there a supported command, artifact event, tool, or setting that lets the agent open a PDF, close and reopen its preview, or refresh the existing pane? Does updating a stable file ID behave differently from publishing a new file? If a Google Drive PDF is used, is there a verified workflow that keeps the embedded preview current?
Please distinguish ChatGPT Work in the web browser from behavior specific to the macOS desktop app. I would especially appreciate exact steps and a way to verify that the displayed content really changed after recompilation.
Hi @djg123 - thanks for sharing the details about the PDF preview staying on an older revision.
Please try these steps to open and verify the latest compiled PDF in ChatGPT Work on the web:
After recompilation, manually open the latest PDF link in the chat.
To verify the revision, add a temporary label inside the document, such as “Revision 2,” before recompiling, then check for that label in the preview.
If the preview still shows the older version, download the latest PDF and check the label there.
If the download is current but the preview is outdated, hard refresh ChatGPT using Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + R, then open the latest link again.
If it persists, try a private browser window with extensions disabled or another browser.
The Work with files guide explains how to review generated files. As of now, there is no document a command or setting that guarantees automatic PDF preview refresh on the web, different refresh behavior for stable file IDs, or a Google Drive workflow that keeps an embedded PDF preview current.
The desktop app’s LaTeX workflow is separate: when its built-in compiler is available, a standalone .tex file can be edited alongside a PDF preview that refreshes after successful compilation.
