Feature Request: AI-First Operating System – Let ChatGPT Become My Computer
First, I’d like to thank everyone at OpenAI.
ChatGPT has become one of the most valuable tools I’ve ever used. It has helped me learn new skills, build software, create stories, design products, solve technical problems, and organize creative projects. Thank you for creating something that has changed the way I work.
I have one dream that I hope OpenAI considers in the future.
My Vision
I don’t want ChatGPT to be just another application on my computer.
I want ChatGPT to become my computer.
Not necessarily by replacing Windows immediately, but by becoming the primary way I interact with my computer.
Today, computers are application-centric.
If I want to complete one task, I have to:
- Open multiple applications.
- Copy prompts.
- Paste prompts.
- Download files.
- Upload files.
- Organize folders.
- Repeat the same workflow every day.
The computer waits for me to tell every application what to do.
Instead, I’d love an AI-first experience.
I simply describe my goal.
The AI determines how to accomplish it.
Example
Instead of saying:
Open Chrome.
Open ChatGPT.
Open my image generator.
Open my video generator.
Download the result.
Organize the files.
I simply say:
Continue my animation project.
ChatGPT would:
- Remember where we left off.
- Open the correct project.
- Generate prompts.
- Wait for my approval.
- Open my preferred image AI.
- Generate the images.
- Open my preferred video AI.
- Animate the images.
- Download the videos.
- Organize everything into the proper folders.
- Update the project status.
- Tell me what requires my approval next.
I become the director.
ChatGPT becomes the production assistant.
Another Example
I say:
Install Blender.
ChatGPT would:
- Download Blender from the official website.
- Verify the download.
- Ask for confirmation.
- Install it.
- Configure it if requested.
- Notify me when everything is ready.
Another Example
I say:
Good morning.
Instead of opening several applications myself, ChatGPT responds:
Good morning.
While you were away:
• Your project backup completed.
• Episode 2 finished rendering.
• Godot exported successfully.
• Your AI images are ready for review.
• I prepared Scene 3 for your approval.
This feels much closer to talking with an intelligent assistant than operating a traditional computer.
AI Should Become the Operating Interface
I believe the future is not simply putting AI inside Windows.
I believe AI itself should become the operating interface.
Instead of asking:
Which application should I use?
People simply describe what they want to accomplish.
The AI decides which software, services, and workflows should be used.
Applications become tools.
Conversation becomes the interface.
Human Approval Always Matters
I don’t want AI making important decisions without me.
Before performing important actions, ChatGPT should always ask for confirmation.
For example:
- Installing software
- Purchasing products
- Sending emails
- Publishing content
- Deleting files
Once approved, ChatGPT should complete the task automatically.
This keeps the user in control while removing repetitive work.
Desktop Performance
One small suggestion:
The Windows desktop application currently takes around 10–15 seconds to become usable after a fresh Windows startup on my computer.
It’s not a major issue, but I hope startup performance continues to improve over time.
Final Thoughts
Many people compare AI assistants to science fiction.
Personally, I don’t want an AI that simply answers questions.
I want an AI that helps me accomplish real work.
I want to feel like I’m talking to my computer the same way Tony Stark talks to J.A.R.V.I.S.—not because of the movie itself, but because it represents a more natural way of interacting with technology.
Whether this becomes a future version of ChatGPT, a new desktop experience, or even an AI-first operating system someday, I believe it could fundamentally change how people use computers.
Thank you for everything you’ve built so far. I’m excited to see where ChatGPT goes in the future.
I am very happy with Chatgpt as assistant. that’s why I know want it to be my computer ![]()
