ChatGPT’s session expiration policy

Hi all,

I have a specific query to do with ChatGPT’s session expiration policy. I may have logged into my ChatGPT account on a friend’s MacBook in mid-October using google chrome.

I’m wondering whether the account would have automatically logged out of my account after a period of inactivity, like a couple of weeks or so? I know that my friend who owns the laptop is not a fan of ChatGPT and likely never uses it. However I would feel more reassured if I knew my past conversations were not accessible just in case she did think about using the website in the last couple of months.

To be safe, I have deleted the account and all previous conversations last week. However I’m slightly paranoid that during the period between October and January she may have been able to access my past conversations which contained very sensitive and private information.

I should mention that I’d been using that account quite regularly on my iphone during that period, but I’m thinking that shouldn’t affect whether I would stay logged in on her laptop? If anyone has any knowledge of how the timeframe for session expiry/auto-logout for ChatGPT works, I would be extremely grateful!

Thanks
Henry

Hey there and welcome to the forum!

Assuming you have access to all the devices you do currently want it logged into, There is actually an option to log out of all logged-in devices at once.

After you log out of everything, you can log back into what you do want. Regardless of whether or not it’s still on your friend’s computer before this, it’s probably safe to do a clean wipe of this anyway just to be on the safe side.

Hope this helps!
