Are there any usage limits applied on my account?
As of May 13th 2024, Plus users will be able to send 80 messages every 3 hours on GPT-4o. and 40 messages every 3 hours on GPT-4. The message cap for a user in a ChatGPT Team workspace is approximately twice that of ChatGPT Plus.
Please note that unused messages do not accumulate (i.e. if you wait 6 hours, you will not have 80 messages available to use for the next 3 hours on GPT-4).In certain cases for Plus users, we may dynamically adjust the message limit based on available capacity in order to prioritize making GPT-4 accessible to the widest number of people.
Fun fact, Chat-GPT 3-5 itself isn’t able to direct you toward this information, you have to search for it yourself. It also gives you dead links when fishing for more informations or details.
As for the EU law, there are multiples texts in place to protect customers and, I gotta say, OpenAI is walking a very fine line. Basically, it’s written somewhere, so it could be argued that they do disclose the limit. BUT (and there’s also a but), it could also be argued that it is not clearly stated, which is part of the transparency requested by the EU to platforms before selling products.
So in conclusion, and to my knowledge (I am by no mean an international law expert, and honestly, time is money and I’d rather not resubscribe than waste time on investigating laws on transparency and dubious practices, that’s a whole damn job in and of itself), they’re kind of in a grey area.
Want to have a lawsuit ? Get a good lawyer team and be rich. They recently partnered with Apple to complement Siri (A.K.A. it’s gonna replace it at some point), so it should tell you enough…
EU law managed to force Apple to change their charging slot on their products after YEARS.
I doubt endeavors about non-transparent disclosure of limits would be fruitfull but I’m curious to see it if it does happen…
If they could add a visible counter of the limits currently applied on the side though, while we’re using ChatGPT-4 would be nice… A man can dream.
