ChatGPT is not upgrading people to ChatGPT Plus after receiving payment of $19.99

I have tried upgrading to ChatGPT Plus twice via Apple Pay. I talked to Apple and they said Apple send the $19.99 to ChatGPT but they are not upgrading my ChatGPT free plan to ChatGPT Plus. Support seems to not exist. Someone is making lots of money off of lots of people. Perhaps ChatGPT should come clean and give the money back to all those people.

It’s really frustrating when something like this happens.

I have never paid for a subscription through Apple Pay, so I’m not very familiar with the process, but even if Apple has confirmed that they have paid ChatGPT, it might still be in the process of activating the subscription feature.

First, you might want to check if there is a subscribe button that is grayed-out (light purple) as described on this page:

If that doesn’t apply and your upgrade hasn’t been activated, you could request a refund directly from OpenAI’s support using this link:

If you still do not receive a refund, it may be worth approaching Apple for a refund as well.

Suggestion: Forget ChatGPT Plus. Use Microsoft Copilot instead, zero cost, much better results.

I’ve experienced the exact same issue, and it has been incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I attempted to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus using Apple Pay, but the upgrade didn’t work despite the payment going through. I contacted Apple to request a refund, but they denied it, claiming it wasn’t eligible. Since then, I’ve been in touch with OpenAI support throughout December 2024, and unfortunately, the experience has been extremely unhelpful. They keep asking me to follow the same process repeatedly, but it doesn’t resolve anything. I’ve even sent recordings of the issue twice, providing detailed evidence, but nothing has come of it. OpenAI’s support has been dismissive, and they don’t seem to genuinely care about resolving the problem. It feels like, as customers, we’re being neglected because there are so many users, and they don’t value individual issues. After this experience, I’ve decided I’ll never use Apple Pay for upgrading or subscribing again, and my trust in OpenAI has been seriously impacted by how they’ve handled this situation

Hi! After making the payment via App Store / App Pay on an iPhone it did not upgrade on the iPhone, but it was upgraded on the web interface. I deleted the app on the iPhone and then reinstalled. That solved the issue.
