ChatGPT Chrome Extension - native messages host never establishes brower control connection (macOS)

Summary:
The ChatGPT Chrome extension cannot establish browser control. It repeatedly connects and disconnects, and I get an error indicating the native host connection isn’t working. This has persisted for about a week, spanning multiple app updates and reinstalls.

Environment:

  • Device: MacBook Pro, Apple Silicon (M2)
  • macOS version: Tahoe 26.5.2
  • ChatGPT desktop app version:26.818.61809
  • Chrome version: 151.0.7922.170

Troubleshooting already completed:

  • Restarted Mac multiple times
  • Fully uninstalled ChatGPT app, Chrome, and the Chrome extension
  • Cleared all related Library entries (Application Support, Containers)
  • Emptied Trash and did a completely fresh install of Chrome, the extension, and the ChatGPT app — repeated this process several times
  • Confirmed only one ChatGPT.app exists in /Applications (no duplicates)
  • Confirmed only one ChatGPT process in Activity Monitor
  • Confirmed only one ChatGPT extension entry in chrome://extensions
  • Confirmed no leftover Codex/ChatGPT folders in ~/Library/Containers
  • Activity Monitor shows all ChatGPT-related helper processes running normally (ChatGPT, ChatGPT Computer Use, ChatGPT for Chrome, AutoFill, Dock Extra) with no duplicates — so the failure is not due to a stuck or duplicate process.
  • Total troubleshooting time: 15+ hours over about a week

Issue behavior:

  • Native browser control repeatedly turns on then off
  • Was initially told by support this was a known outage; outage has reportedly ended but issue persists
  • No combination of reinstalling, restarting, or clearing config has resolved it

Impact:
I’m a ChatGPT Pro subscriber relying on this for active work (Joomla website development) and it’s fully blocked me from completing that work. It’s day six. One intermittent session was accomplished.

Request:
Please advise on a fix, or confirm if this is a known active bug with an ETA for resolution.

I have tried support. I have sent chats, I have done screenshots. I have gotten email responses. I also asked for my time back and the answer was no.

It can’t be just me.
