I’ve been using Codex for months now and I’ve loved it, but ever since I was forced to upgrade to this abysmal ChatGPT app I’m very frustrated.
The vagueness between ChatGPT work and codex, is super confusing, and what’s worse is that both of them share the same chat/project lists.
Then lets say you are just chatting with ChatGPT (I brainstorm a lot with ChatGPT), ChatGPT says this would be better in a work chat. You say yes now you are in a new chat no context of the previous conversation AND the previous conversation is nowhere to be found because you are now in ‘Work’ mode. Then you go back to non work mode to view the chat and now you can’t get back to work mode.
I hate this app. The shame is it doesn’t have to be this bad. Like just make the ChatGPT and Codex switch a CLEAR switch with their own projects, chats, etc.
Really hope someone at OpenAI sees this or just the general poor reception of this app and does something about it.
On the app, both Windows and macOS allow you to filer between classic, work and codex. When you have to Classic/Work View, the recent chat has a filter to see both or either including the projects relevant to each aspect. When you switch to the codex view, you get only the codex chat and projects.
haven’t seen this issue, on the work/codex side there is even a permission asking to see other chats if you ask, all up to personal information if you ask from previous chats in history.
I agree here, the switch is not so obvious in the UI/UX way, but the distinction you mention can be done properly. I see it as two environments the Classic/Work with the toggle at top of the chats, and then there is the switch to codex. It’s not straight forward. My guess is that in a future iteration that will be reworked.
I just had quite a pleasant surprise, was working with normal chats and suddenly this happen, of course it was a pop-up but the consequence is that from normal chats, the App automatically recommended to switch to Work over Classic.
Addendum: ChatGPT Classic opened a ChaGPT Work chat, used the browser to self diagnose the problem by logging in as user and check my environment. Created a task to keep this in check and do proper reporting. Checked for flaws and fixed the problems.
