Chat history search appears broken for a specific account (cross-account testing isolates issue)

I’ve encountered what appears to be an account-specific issue with ChatGPT conversation search and wanted to share the troubleshooting in case it helps identify the underlying cause.

Expected behavior

Searching by an exact conversation title or unique keyword should return the corresponding conversation.

Actual behavior

Many conversations are not returned, even when searching for:

  • the exact conversation title

  • unique words or phrases that only appear in that conversation

The conversations still exist and can be opened by manually scrolling through chat history.

Troubleshooting performed

To isolate the problem, I tested multiple scenarios:

  • :white_check_mark: Multiple browsers

  • :white_check_mark: ChatGPT app

  • :white_check_mark: Fresh sessions

  • :white_check_mark: Same behavior everywhere while signed into my account

I then performed one additional test:

  • :white_check_mark: Logged into different ChatGPT accounts on the same device

  • :white_check_mark: Search worked normally for those accounts

Because the behavior follows my account rather than the browser, device, or app, this appears to be an account-specific search/indexing issue rather than a client-side problem.

Impact

Search is no longer a reliable way to retrieve previous conversations. Exact titles and unique keywords fail to locate conversations that are known to exist.

Has anyone else observed this behavior? If helpful, I’m happy to provide anonymized examples or additional reproduction details.
