I’m a regular user of the ChatGPT macOS app and appreciate the features and usability it offers. However, I often prefer to use “Temporary Chat” mode to avoid saving conversations, and I find it inconvenient to manually enable this setting for each new chat.
Would it be possible to add an option to set “Temporary Chat” as the default mode for all new conversations? Alternatively, having the app remember the last used setting (as seen in the Edge browser) would be a great improvement.
This enhancement would streamline the user experience for those of us who prefer temporary chats by default and add more flexibility in managing conversation history.
This feature would be great!
In browsers, we can use query parameters like https://chatgpt.com/?model=gpt-4o&temporary-chat=true but macOS App has the “Chat Bar”, which is much powerful than website.
Needs more attention! The chat history becomes polluted with simple question-answer chats you don’t want to retain making it impossible to find the more important chats.
If I may refine this ask: specifically, if I start a conversation in the “Chat Bar”, I want it to be a Temporary Chat by default.
I keep long-running discussions in Projects, or in chats that are in the sidebar of the main window. Since the “Chat Bar” always activates a new discussion outside of the Projects or previous discussions, the expected behavior is that it’s temporary. And when I do add to previous work, or make a more long-lived discussion, I am fine with taking the time to open the larger window.
