Task: ordinary Codex work, primarily writing/handling emails — not a large build, not a long-running compute job.
Timeline
- Used a usage reset; the 5-hour allowance returned to 100%.
- Roughly five minutes later the usage page showed 28% remaining while the weekly allowance still showed 89% remaining.
- About 30 seconds later, the 5-hour allowance hit 0%.
- Used another reset. Codex resumed the same task and hit the usage limit again after 3m 16s.
- The UI then displayed: “You’re out of Codex and Work usage.”
This is not a question about the 5-hour window being compute-weighted. A fresh allowance is being consumed at a rate that is plainly abnormal, and the short-window depletion is wildly disproportionate to the weekly usage.
There have already been public reports here of unexpected high quota consumption for roughly a week, including resets being issued to paid users. This is still happening today.
Screenshots attached show the 28% state shortly after reset and the Codex thread hitting the usage limit again after 3m 16s.
Could someone from OpenAI please check the quota telemetry/accounting for this and confirm whether affected usage resets will be restored? I can provide exact timestamps and task details if useful.
