We need subfolders in the ChatGPT app to help organize our chats more efficiently and keep related conversations grouped together.

Feature Request (text by ChatGPT) – Optional Folder Structure for Chats**

I would like to have an optional folder structure for chats so that users can organize their conversations thematically. Each chat remains fully autonomous and editable, but can be assigned to a freely created and named folder or subfolder. Chats without an assignment (or if the assignment is removed) continue to appear in the unordered area, as they do now.

Why this is useful:

  • With hundreds of chats, it becomes much easier to maintain an overview.

  • Users can flexibly sort by topics, projects, or interests.

  • Structured organization is possible without restricting the freedom of individual chats.

Minimal implementation:

  • A folder_id field per chat to indicate its folder assignment.

  • Frontend: simple filter or collapse/expand view.

  • Optional: 1–2 levels for subfolders.
