Summary:
Project name is missing in the chat header when opening a project chat from search (Android), but visible when opening the same chat via Project view.
Description:
When using ChatGPT on Android, there is a UI inconsistency when opening chats that belong to a Project.
If I open a chat via the Project view, the Project name is visible (at least partially) in the header.
However, if I:
• Use the search function
• Open a chat from the search results
→ the Project name is not shown anywhere in the chat view or header, even though the chat clearly belongs to a Project.
Additional observation:
• The (⋯) menu shows “Remove from project”, which confirms that the chat is part of a Project
• So the Project association exists, but it is not visible in the UI when opened from search
Steps to reproduce:
• Open ChatGPT (Android)
• Ensure you have chats inside a Project
• Use search to find one of those chats
• Open it from the search results
• Observe that the Project name is missing from the header
•
Expected behavior: The Project name should be visible in the chat header regardless of how the chat is opened.
Actual behavior: The Project name is only visible when opening the chat via the Project view, but not when opening via search.
Impact: This creates a usability issue when working with multiple projects:
• The user cannot identify which Project the chat belongs to
• There is a risk of continuing work in the wrong context
Device / version: Android 16
Samsung Galaxy A56 5G (SM-A566B)
ChatGPT version 1.2026.111 (26)
This has also been confirmed via OpenAI support and logged as a UI inconsistency.
