Apologies in advance if there is already a similar thread like this.
It would be incredibly useful to have an option within the ChatGPT UI to adjust the max width of the chat window. Currently, the widths are preset for various screen sizes (md:max-w-3xl
, lg:max-w-[40rem]
, xl:max-w-[48rem]
), but allowing users to tweak or customize these values could improve readability and usability, especially for those using larger screens. Is this something we could make configurable as a feature in the settings?
Stop asking for completely reasonable features that take almost no time to develop.
I have a 27" monitor and always maximize the window. the response area in GPT consumes ~1/5 of my screen. The rest us unusable whitespace. I guess all their developers use Macs with 11 -inch screens.
That said, there are tons of other simple features. Like CTRL-F and search in the current chat. Or perhaps a vertical scroll bar whose contrast is dark enough to see the difference between that and the sea of white space.
It is clear that OpenAI does not care about the usability of their products. Having even a single developer on making things better would have given us a much better experience a long time ago and added to the appeal of the product.
A small indie company like OpenAI probably doesn’t have the resources to allocate to such a time-consuming fix. I’ve solved this for myself with the help of a Tampermonkey script. It is probably not allowed to share the script here, but you can do the same by asking your preferred choice of LLM for coding.
Hi, welcome to the community!
