AI Art Generation Copyright Concerns

Dear OpenAI Team,

I am writing to share some feedback on the current copyright policies enforced by your AI art generator, DALL-E. As an enthusiast and user of your technology, I appreciate the innovative tools you’ve developed that allow for creative expression through AI-generated art.

However, I find that the current restrictions can sometimes limit creative exploration, particularly when it comes to recreating characters in different artistic styles or experimenting with crossovers for personal entertainment and not for commercial use. Many users, including myself, enjoy seeing how different characters can be interpreted in various styles, purely for personal enjoyment and creative experimentation.

I understand the necessity of respecting copyright laws and protecting intellectual property, but I wonder if there might be a way to balance these considerations with the desire for more creative freedom. Perhaps implementing a system where creations can be marked explicitly for personal use, or exploring partnerships for limited use of certain styles or characters, could be a solution. Others could be A) have the AI add a copyright notice watermark that the art was originally created by The Enigma TNG for example, or B) have the original and AI generated version merged into a comparison image.

Thank you for considering this feedback. I look forward to any adjustments that might help foster even greater creativity while maintaining responsible use of AI technologies.

Best regards,

Andrew Matchett
