Please add the ability for ChatGPT to accept and analyze short MP4 screen recordings. This would be extremely valuable for software development and technical troubleshooting.
Many UI problems cannot be adequately demonstrated with static screenshots — including mouse hover behavior, dropdown menus, focus changes, automatic cursor movement, flickering, ghosting, timing issues, and sequences of actions.
For example, while developing a desktop application with ChatGPT, I needed to demonstrate a dropdown-menu problem involving focus and visual overlap. A 15-second screen recording would show the issue immediately, while describing it in text or sending several screenshots is much less effective.
ChatGPT can already analyze images, documents, code, and other media. Being able to upload a short screen recording and have ChatGPT inspect it frame-by-frame would make it substantially more useful for software development, tech support, training, and troubleshooting.

I strongly support this request, but I want to add an important data point: MP4 screen-recording uploads previously worked for me in ChatGPT.
I regularly recorded workflows in other applications, uploaded the MP4 to a ChatGPT conversation, and had ChatGPT review what was happening on screen. This was an established and very useful workflow for me. Last successful 17 August. As of August 21, 2026, those same MP4 uploads now return “Upload failed.” I tested:
- A normal ~12 MB MP4 — failed
- A 2-second MP4 — failed
- A ZIP containing the MP4 — failed
- PNG screenshots in the same conversation — successful
So this does not appear to be a file-size or general account-upload issue.
The important use case is asynchronous screen-recording review: record a workflow, save it, upload it later, and let ChatGPT analyze the sequence. Live screen sharing and static screenshots are not equivalent substitutes.
If MP4 handling was experimental, I would encourage OpenAI to restore and formally support it. If it was intentionally removed, it would be helpful to understand why and what replacement is planned. I valued this feature (upgraded my subscription within the past week - now I see less capability).
