Problem
When launching the Windows Store version of ChatGPT, the app presents a Cloudflare “verify your humanity” challenge that it does not successfully auto-complete. This also happens when closing and re-opening the main window.
Additional Context
This has been happening for the last three days or so. I’ve tried the following potential solutions:
- Completely closing and reopening the app
- Rebooting my router/modem
- Rebooting my computer
- Removing the OpenAI.ChatGPT app settings
- Uninstalling and reinstalling the app
None of these solved the problem; the app still asks me to “verify my humanity.”
If I click “reload” from the system tray icon, I do get logged in and can send messages. However, any replies I receive are invisible and can’t be copied until I completely close, reopen, and reload the app again. Otherwise, I’m not logged in and remain stuck at the “verify” screen as it waits for me to click that checkbox.
I’m sure this is a non-issue for many users. “Just click the checkbox.” However, I’ve never encountered a Cloudflare challenge when using ChatGPT in any form before. Even now, I am not seeing this prompt on web or mobile and can use those versions freely, and I wasn’t seeing the prompt before three days ago. Having never experienced this on desktop, I’m very hesitant to “just click that checkbox.”
Why is only the desktop client being singled out, while the web and mobile versions function normally? I understand that it relies on web services under the hood, so naturally, the app could be hijacked in some way, just like any other app. Still, this is my computer, I’m the only one who uses it, and I was the one who opened the app, not some 3rd party account or Windows backdoor.
I’ve gotten accustomed to using the desktop app, as it’s far less laggy than the web version. Having never encountered this before, I have to ask: is this expected behavior for the Windows client? Does it perform this check on every launch and normally auto-complete before the UI is visible, or is something abnormal happening here?
Thank you.
