Hi, I remember that when I logged into the Codex app before, I was not required to add or verify a phone number.
Now, during login, I’m being asked to add a phone number, and I’m a bit confused about why this is necessary.
Has the login policy changed recently?
Is phone verification now required for all Codex app users, or does it only happen in certain cases, such as new devices, account security checks, MFA, or API-related verification?
I’d appreciate any clarification. Thanks.

First I am not an OpenAI employee.
I looked for a direct answer to that in the OpenAI documentation, FAQ, issues, etc. and by having ChatGPT search and we could not find a direct answer.
ChatGPT did note
and in paticular this statement
Codex cloud interacts directly with your codebase, so it needs stronger security than many other ChatGPT features.

Hey @clown_yanxi, that's a valid concern.
As @EricGT added, it now requires stronger security than other features.
This can also happen due to many factors like updated security policies, anti-abuse protections, regional/account changes, suspicious login detection or because certain features/plans now require a verified phone number.
Hope this helps :)
