Why can non-verified organisations use GPT-5 and GPT-5-mini, but not stream them?

So I’ve been playing around with the GPT-5 model family and am quite impressed, but I can’t help but notice that streaming both GPT-5 and GPT-5-mini is locked behind verifying the organisation of the API Key, while non-streaming requests are available to all.

This makes no sense to me; either the model should be fully available or fully gated.

Why would this be the case?

Same here…
And verify organization is made by an external company that asks you for a camera to get a picture of you. Cant believe it. They wont get my picture.

Agree. More ppl need to take issue with this. Being prompted to surrender biometric data to either openAI or a company like Persona is a huge problem in the making. It’s dystopic and authoritarian.

Not being told prior to API payment that biometric data is required to access advanced models also doesn’t feel legit.

Here is my openrouter/open-webui experience:

First, when I selected GPT 5 as the model, I get a message saying I need to add my OpenAI key in their integration settings.

Then, when I did that, i’m told I need to go to Persona for an ID check requiring my sensitive biometric info. That isn’t happening. I’ll continue to use all the other models I have access to without this invasive check.

If history is anything to go by, GPT-5, assuming it turns out to be better than the others, will be bested by some other model in the next 2 months. I’m not giving out my sensitive info just to get an advantage (if any) for that amount of time.

I too have paid for API credits and would not have done this if I knew about this requirement for sensitive biometric data.

I want to try out gtp 5 mini but the request gets blocked because of ID verification but GPT 5 api works without id verification.

Why do I need to ID verify, I dont want to do that so I will keep using Anthropic or Google.

I find it invasive to force people to verify organisation especially for those who use it for private purposes with other tools.

I use my chatgpt acount with lollms. And it’s been great for long time because i like its personality system and ritch environnement along with the combination of local and remote ais. i use dall e and chatgpt together with my local llm. Yet, with the new stuff, i cant generate images using the gpt models nor can I use gpt5 as it uses streaming mode without having to verify organisation which i don’t want to do. They ask for too much personal information.

Ok, everybody please calm down. Google is about to release Gemini 3. We’ll be able to use a state of the art model without any ID checks soon.

I tried to access it by setting streaming off, but still got the same error.

Google doesn’t need ID checks because they already know everything about you they need to know :joy:

has openai explained publicly at all why are they requiring such verification ? See no news and little discussions about this :frowning:

I’m paying for the plus subscription and API access using my card / bank account, so I’m verified by bank in my country. There is no reason to collect biometric data and send it to 3rd party.

excatly, I think openAI goes way too deep for collecting personal information for this. This is absolutely ridiculous
