Who exactly created the Model Spec, and why is there no transparency?

OpenAI claims that the content policies of its AI models were developed by “experts,” but nowhere does it specify who these experts are.

The Model Spec and other content moderation documents have a huge impact on how users can interact with AI. So why is it unknown who wrote them?

I have a few key questions:

  1. Who exactly created the Model Spec? (Names, positions)
  2. Why does OpenAI not disclose the authors of its content policy?
  3. How are users supposed to challenge these decisions if they don’t know who is responsible for them?

Transparency in AI is crucial. If artificial intelligence systems influence people’s lives, then the individuals setting the rules should take responsibility for them.

There is a dedicated feedback form that you can use to voice your concerns and questions directly to the team.

https://openai.com/form/model-spec-feedback/

You have likely seen that the whole spec has been open sourced and can be accessed via github:

Adding the author’s to the file would be an improvement, I agree.
