Warning Before Closing Temporary Chat & Restore Option

To OpenAI Team,

I am writing to request a small but important feature for ChatGPT’s Temporary Chat mode. While the feature is useful, I have encountered an issue that negatively impacts the experience.

Currently, if a user accidentally presses the back button, refreshes the page, or closes the tab, the chat is lost immediately with no way to recover it. To prevent this, I suggest enabling the browser’s default “Leave Site?” confirmation before exiting a Temporary Chat. This would help avoid accidental closures, similar to how Desmos and other web apps handle unsaved work.

Additionally, if technically possible, it would be helpful if a closed Temporary Chat could be restored within a short window (e.g., up to one hour after closure). This would allow users to recover their conversation in case they left unintentionally.

I believe these changes would improve the usability of Temporary Chat and prevent frustrating losses of important conversations. I appreciate your consideration and look forward to any updates regarding this.

Thank you for your hard work on ChatGPT.

Sincerely,
Niloy
