Voice Mode not working in Mac App - Cutting Off

Hello,

Whenever I try to use Advanced Voice Mode in the desktop app (Mac), ChatGPT starts speaking but continuously interrupts itself. It only manages to say two or three words before cutting off, seemingly listening to its own voice, and then starts over.

This issue began after the 1.2025.105 update. I have tried logging out and changing ChatGPT’s voice settings, but the problem persists.

For reference, I am using a 16-inch M1 MacBook Pro. This issue only occurs in the Mac desktop client — Advanced Voice Mode works fine on my phone and in the browser.

I’m having the same exact issue on a MacBook Pro M3 Pro with 15.4.1 (24E263) . Advance Voice Mode is completely unusable now. Worked great until a few GPT software updates ago. I’ve updated to GPT Version 1.2025.112 (1745628785) and still have issue.

So… just updated to 1.2025.112 and the issue is not fixed yet. Voice Mode is still unusable in the Mac App and nobody seems to care.

For more info, this started with version 1.2025.098, ver. 1.2025.105. didn’t fixed it and, as I wrote earlier, 1.2025.112 is still having the same problem.

Likewise - amazed this isn’t a known bug and that thousands of others haven’t escalated, given how many must use Macbook desktop app - it’s not an issue using the browser, just the desktop app as you say.

Hey OpenAI - fix this !

reported, took me a full week, going back and forth with the cs team. Still got unsolved. Honestly, the team doesnt give a sh*t on this matter. I recommend you all to just wait for the voice mode from claude, and lets subscribe that instead. They are way better than this funny app anyway

Hey all. Is everyone with this issue using the built in mic/speakers in the Mac? I found using headphones works fine. I also fixed it by turning down the volume on the built-in speakers. It’s seems GPT is interrupting itself by hearing it’s own voice.

This issue not getting fixed tells me, AI is not gonna take my job.

to add to the pain, chat mode on mac app is now interpreting my spoken voice as Welsh and scribes and responds back in Welsh (I’m a native English speaker)

I thought by telling ChatGPT to keep my English language as a permanent language preference in long-term memory, this would resolve it…

no issues in browser or iOS, just the Mac

Voice Mode in the ChatGPT Mac app may cut off suddenly due to receiver consent issues, framework sound settings, clashes with other apps, or a bug in the current app adaptation. Clients ought to check receiver get to, upgrade or reinstall the app, and restart their framework. If the issue continues, announcing the issue through the app is prescribed.

I am having the same issue. ChatGPT begins responded, then abruptly stops 1-2 seconds in, and then keeps doing this over and over. Advanced voice chat is currently completely unusable on macOS. It would be great to get a fix for this.

Another update: Yesterday, I updated my MacBook Pro to Sequoia 15.5, hoping the issue was caused by the OS. Nothing changed, the bug persists.

Additionally, now when I use Voice Mode on the browser (Safari), after a few responses, ChatGPT’s voice starts to fade and becomes so quiet it can’t be heard, even with the MBP volume set to maximum.

I have no idea what the hell is going on with ChatGPT, and trying to report the bug directly to OpenAI is basically impossible.

Given how much I use Voice Mode, canceling my subscription is starting to feel like the most logical step.

Found a fix for this, you need to downgrade your app to version 1.2025.091
Link: https://persistent.oaistatic.com/sidekick/public/ChatGPT_Desktop_public_1.2025.091_1743812765.dmg

It is the official ChatGPT download link. If you check the download link that OpenAI use in their website, it’s at https://persistent.oaistatic.com/sidekick/public/ChatGPT.dmg which has the latest version.

Here, we are just downloading the specific version rather than the latest version.

Known issue:

  • Opening existing conversations created from newer version may cause the app to crash

Same problem; then after waiting WEEKS for an update; each update failed to address the issue. Come’on guys.

Updated to 1.2025.126 and the issue still persists.

Just to keep track, here are the five updates that failed to fix it:

•	1.2025.098
•	1.2025.105
•	1.2025.112
•	1.2025.119
•	1.2025.126

Also, what Reynaldi proposes is more of a workaround than a proper fix. Nevertheless, thanks for sharing that info.

That worked a treat thank you! A step backwards but better than not usable.

You are right, proper fix will need to wait from OpenAI and hopefully it comes soon.
For now, the workaround is to downgrade the app.
