You know him as the CEO of OpenAI — but did you know that Sam Altman is an avid writer?
As one of today’s most successful entrepreneurs, Sam champions the tremendous value of writing: how it clarifies your thinking, expands your ideas, and levels-up your life in every sense, both personally and professionally. Plus, he has a love for the creative. (Have you ever met someone who can recite Percy Bysshe Shelley poems from memory? Well, Sam can.)
In this episode, we discuss how Sam uses ChatGPT in his daily life; how LLMs are changing the future of writing; what it means to be a novelist in the age of technology; and Sam’s best-learned writing lessons from Paul Graham. If you want to learn how the king of ChatGPT writes, this episode is for you.
I saw this video a while back, when it came out. i like how he tries to write in few but effective words.
I’m not sure what made it get cut into a two part interview. I think the biggest take away I got from this was how communication should be done at his level.
The question about why he capitalizes his words or not on twitter was a bit annoying. Imagine being able to talk with sama and be able to ask anything and waste time on a question like this one.
I think what I miss most about such interviews are deeper philosophical and intelligent questions. I would much rather see a conversation between Joscha Bach and Sam Altman than what we currently have out there, but I guess it is what it is. Even lex was a bit underwhelming on his last interview.
Sorry if someone already posted it here. I’ve been trying to collect all the Sam interviews I can in one place.
Clicks/views? Hrm… Maybe we did link the full video already?
Now there’s a fun thread idea! Hah.
I watched a lot of Machine Learning Street Talk when they first started. Good production, great guests, etc. With limited time, I try to find the best of the best and share here if worthy…
oh, no, I don’t think it has been posted here. The algorithm recommended to me when it was published on youtube.
I’m not sure. Sam did look much better on the second part of the video.
thanks for sharing Paul!
This interview had a charming and based vibe, and offered a different perspective on Sam Altman than what’s been going around because of the social media drama with people moving on from OpenAI.
It was a good move to do this particular interview, or publish it, at this particular time.
Thanks for collecting these videos, did you consider making a playlist on YT? You could use a second Google account, or a brand account, to cut through the noise.
I used to enjoy listening to Lex Fridman interviews, but have been able to entirely satisfy this need with ASMR cooking and wood work videos instead.
Okay, whew. I do “drive-by” help here sometimes where/when I can, so I thought I’d messed up again!
No problem! That’s a good idea, but I don’t want to farm views or anything. Maybe we could do something in connection with the AI Pulse project, though? Are you familiar with that at all? (We could use some comment love! Haha…A ton of work goes into gathering all the best news bit and putting them into digestible chunks. @jr.2509 , @vb , and the rest of the team are knocking it out of the park…)
AI Pulse doesn’t have an official YouTube or anything and might never, but maybe we could work interviews in somehow? If nothing else, we have the ai-sama tag for now! Haha.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Helps make this a better place for us all.
This is amazing! Thank you and your team for doing that in your free time, it looks like a huge amount of effort. I’ll definitely be looking at those topics regularly now.
It’s an amazing interview! For me, I like to see how successful people think; Especially like Sam Altman
I think it’s very inspiring;
Thank you uploading this interview
