We’ve been experimenting with GPT to reduce the time required to create internal training materials, and the results have been surprisingly good.
Previously, creating a single online course involved multiple steps: researching the topic, writing the outline, preparing learning objectives, drafting quizzes, and reviewing the content. Even for a short course, this could take several days.
GPT has helped us automate many of those repetitive tasks.
For example, our current workflow looks like this:
- Generate a course outline from a topic.
- Create measurable learning objectives.
- Draft lesson summaries.
- Generate quiz questions with explanations.
- Rewrite technical content for different skill levels.
- Produce course descriptions and metadata.
Human review is still essential, especially for technical accuracy and instructional quality, but GPT significantly reduces the amount of manual writing involved.
One unexpected benefit has been consistency. Learning objectives, quiz formats, and writing style remain much more uniform across different courses, making the overall learning experience better for employees.
We’re also testing structured prompts that generate multiple versions of a lesson depending on whether the audience is beginner, intermediate, or advanced.
I’m curious how others are using GPT for Learning & Development.
A few questions for the community:
- Which models are you using for long-form educational content?
- Have you found effective prompt patterns for creating quizzes or assessments?
- Are you using the Responses API, Agents SDK, or another workflow?
- How do you keep AI-generated learning content factually accurate before publishing?
I’d love to hear how other teams are approaching AI-assisted course creation.
