To the OpenAI Team,
I hope this message finds you well.
I am writing to bring up a concern regarding a personal experience with your AI model (ChatGPT), which raised some questions about the consistency of its application of neutrality and anti-offensiveness policies.
During my interaction with ChatGPT, I noticed a contradiction in how the model responds to jokes about different groups. When I asked for a joke about Israelis, the request was declined based on policies designed to respect all communities. However, when I requested a joke about Egyptians, the model responded without hesitation, giving the impression of inconsistency in applying these same policies.
This raises several concerns:
- Lack of neutrality: If the policies are intended to protect the feelings of all communities, they should be applied equally to all nationalities and cultures without exceptions.
- Potential erosion of trust in the model: Such inconsistencies may lead users to feel that the model exhibits some bias, which contradicts the notion of AI as a neutral tool.
- Conflict with fairness principles: The current approach could create the impression that certain communities are deemed less important or less worthy of respect, which I believe is not the intended goal.
I greatly appreciate the efforts invested in developing this model to make it safe and helpful for all users. However, I believe that these kinds of inconsistencies warrant serious review to ensure that policies are applied fairly and equitably across all users, regardless of their nationality or culture.
I suggest reviewing the policies governing sensitive or cultural content requests and ensuring that a consistent and transparent standard is applied universally.
Thank you for your attention, and I hope this feedback will contribute to your ongoing efforts to improve the user experience.
Best regards,
Mahmoud
