Description: In the ChatGPT Windows Desktop App (Chat mode), switching between sessions causes the UI to lose the final response output when external tool calls/thinking logs are involved.
Environment:
-
OS: Windows
-
Client: ChatGPT Windows App
-
Context: Chat mode interacting with local tool calls / MCP server (tested with Desktop Commander)
Steps to Reproduce:
-
In ChatGPT Windows App, issue a command that triggers a local tool call via Desktop Commander (which returns tool outputs and thinking logs).
-
Wait until the model finishes execution and renders the final conclusion text correctly.
-
Switch to another chat session in the sidebar.
-
Switch back to the previous session.
Actual Result: The UI fails to properly restore the full message tree. It only renders the expanded tool execution logs and thinking process, while the final conclusion/output completely disappears.
Expected Result: The conversation state should be fully restored upon re-entering the session, keeping the final output visible beneath the tool call block.
Is anyone else noticing this state-recovery issue with tool outputs in the Windows client?
