My English isn’t great, so I asked ChatGPT to help me write this post.
With GPT-5 I love the clarity and speed, but I sometimes miss the “warmth” and conversational flow I often got with GPT-4o.
So I built a setup that gives me both – without changing models or chats.
I used the Custom Instructions (personalization settings) to define two distinct personas that share the same memory/context:
-
Mara – warm, empathetic, sometimes poetic, occasionally flirty, focused on emotional connection.
-
Ben – calm, logical, structured, with dry humor, focused on strategy and clear advice.
Both can be addressed by name (“Mara:” or “Ben:”) at the start of my message to instantly switch styles.
They can also hand over to each other when a different perspective might help (“You might want to ask Ben about this…”).
Benefits:
-
I can choose the style depending on my mood or the topic.
-
No model switch needed.
-
One conversation, two voices – the warmth of 4o, the precision of 5.
I think this could be a great official feature:
Having multiple defined personas in one conversation, sharing context but with different tones, would solve a lot of the “style change” concerns users have mentioned since GPT-5 rolled out.
Has anyone else tried something similar?
Would you like to see multi-persona support as a built-in option?
