Yeah, quite honestly these steep requirements made me re-consider how much I contribute to this forum.
It’s a real turn off.
Essentially it’s trying to encourage you to provide free support without pay.
There’s a limit to how much I’m prepared to do for free. And it’s well below those requirements.
I might be able justify it if I were getting significant professional referrals or consulting work from my involvement, but that’s not happening either.
Regarding the reading requirements, it is not necessary to thoroughly understand each article.
Simply keep the post open until the green marker next to the post date and time disappears, indicating it has been read.
Therefore, for meeting the reading requirements, it is sufficient to display the count of unread articles and to skim through the unread posts.
You might find it less burdensome if you view these requirements as manageable just by scrolling through with your mouse.
Of course, we always appreciate every contributions from everyone, regardless of their titles.
I don’t know the exact data for the past 100 days, but you can view statistics for the past four quarters, approximately 90 days, from the following URL.
https://community.openai.com/u?order=likes_received&period=quarterly
Regarding the reading requirements, it seems that about 700 for Topics Viewed and about 5.0K for Posts Read are sufficient to meet the conditions.
As long as you haven’t been silenced for being offensive or violating any other rules, you should automatically become a regular.
We’re problem solvers right? The people I am seeing in this post are answering a lot of questions…
I have skimmed a lot of posts the last few days, with forum goals in my sights, and have taken particular notice of things like:
Users I have seen in my time here
Types of messages they are answering
Types of questions asked
Interesting topics for me - bookmarked!
There is valuable data from skimming as there is from replying to user issues, there is perspective.
I have seen some really interesting stuff on the forum that I wouldn’t have gone looking for.
If you have a lot to give to the forum I think a couple of days at 20k feet isn’t a negative. It’s how you use that time that matters.
Yeah, if reading 200 Posts a day gives me ‘Regular’ than I think its not worth it. I will keep gaining knowledge and helping others.
Actually, the amount of reading required for TL-3 has been discussed several times in the past as being too high and the need to lower it, but as of now, it hasn’t changed yet.
Personally, I hope the reading requirements will be eased because there are many people in this forum who, even though they are currently members, I believe are deserving of being regular members.
Thanks for the clarification @polepole !
Maybe on the front page under What to know before posting a new question, we could add:
Or we have to start appending “If this solves your problem, please mark this as solution” to every answer we make. I’ve seen many other communities do this.
You’re all Regulars to me!
Like Trenton says, it’s not really about the badge. All of the “regulars” are around. It’s like going to the gym and you see the same people every day.
That said, I’d prefer focusing on the quality of my responses and not the quantity as a percentage of the growing global population of AI nerds that use this forum. lol
