The least important question right now: Why is GPT-5 pro not available in API at exuberant pricing?

Please let me know release date. I know it’s out there somewhere. o3-pro should be deprecated, right?. Who forgot to post the link?

Let’s read carefully:

Pro and Team tier users have access to GPT-5 Thinking Pro, which takes a bit longer to think but delivers the accuracy you need for complex tasks.

Then also consider:

That gives us a picture of what Pro delivers: more reasoning, additionally, more context window than Plus subscribers.

gpt-5-chat-latest , the non-thinking version for your experimentation, demonstrates that ChatGPT runs differently-trained models, happy to blast emojis at you while asking what to do next. Pro in ChatGPT would follow that pattern, thus, maybe not the actual model you want.

Analysis:

API developers can send all the input context they want to pay for:

And turn up that thinking time:

And have the AI produce more:

Conclusion:

You can crank up the model to your billing tolerance levels, and get an AI that is steerable instead of always “You are ChatGPT”.

OpenAI has not stated that GPT-5-Pro is more than extra thinking production.

The deprecations info has o1-mini not shut off yet (2025-10) and o1 still running without announcement, as an idea of how long API models are maintained.

I see what you are saying. Basically GPT-5 pro is just GPT-5 with max API settings but for chat. Hopefully so. And we still need a GPT-5 Deep Research, like the o3 has.

Summary

(Yes, I’ve noticed my pushpin being stolen)

o3-pro is not just o3 with high effort. o3-pro is a separate model in API, with it’s own model name, pricing, and features (for example, o3-pro does not support streaming, it sends the whole answer in one shot)

Thanks, I was talking about gpt-5 and gpt-5 pro throughout, but o3-pro slipped into my thoughts. Updated.
