The expiration policy for inactive assistants and threads has changed?

I’m just starting with the assistant feature. I’ve researched data retention related to the assistant API, and they said that the data will be retained indefinitely if we don’t delete it via the dashboard or API. However, in some forums, people have mentioned that the assistant or thread will be automatically deleted after a certain period of time if not updated. Has the policy recently changed?

Are an assistant thread messages will be deleted after 30 days?

I read somewhere that OpenAI deletes messages after 30 days. Does this mean that assistant chat messages will be deleted and must be stored in my database before 30 days have passed from the date they were created?

Query on Thread Behavior Post 60-Day Retention in Assistants API

In the context of OpenAI’s Assistants API, the default thread retention period is 60 days. What happens if I send a request to a thread after this period? Will I receive an error, or does the conversation restart without the message history?

@thuhientran the openai assistant api data is retained until 30 days only if you manually delete it.

If you aren’t deleting it will be indefinitely persisted.

Assistants API:
Objects related to the Assistants API are deleted from our servers 30 days after you delete them via the API or the dashboard. Objects that are not deleted via the API or dashboard are retained indefinitely.
