Suggestions for Improving ChatGPT's Multi-Branch Conversation Management and Input Editing Experience

Hi OpenAI Team and fellow users,

I’ve been using ChatGPT extensively and wanted to share some feedback regarding the current limitations I’ve encountered, particularly around multi-branch conversations, input flexibility, and message control. These issues often impact the overall experience, especially in longer conversations. I believe addressing them could greatly enhance both the web and mobile app experience.

Key Issues and Suggested Improvements

1. Limited Access to Conversation Branches in the Mobile App
Currently, the mobile app only allows interaction with the most recent conversation branch, making it difficult to revisit or explore previous branches. It would be helpful to have a feature that allows switching between all branches, similar to the web interface.
2. Inability to Modify Image/File Inputs for New Branch Creation
Once an image or file is uploaded, there’s no way to modify it or create alternative branches from the same point. Allowing users to edit or replace file-based inputs without starting over would be a welcome addition.
3. No Option to Delete Specific Branches or Messages
In long, branching conversations, the entire message history seems to be retained in the memory space, which quickly leads to reaching the conversation length limit. It would be useful to introduce the ability to delete specific branches or individual messages to better manage memory usage.
4. Mobile App Input Editing Bug
When editing a previous input on the mobile app, the interface sometimes jumps to the end of the conversation, continuing the edit there instead of modifying the selected message. This bug disrupts the editing process and could benefit from a fix.
5. Inability to Edit Inputs or Regenerate Outputs in Project Conversations
Once a conversation has been added to a project, inputs often become locked, and outputs cannot be regenerated. Adding the option to edit and regenerate responses within projects would make the platform more flexible for ongoing work.

I hope these suggestions help improve the usability of both the web and mobile versions of ChatGPT. If anyone else has experienced similar issues or has additional suggestions, feel free to share your thoughts!

Thanks for considering this feedback!
