Subject: Decline in Image Quality with DALL-E 3 After Extensive Use - Seeking Advice

I wonder if DALL-E 3 has been throttled down due to GPU cost. It feels like the quality output has dropped 90%. I was using it everyday. Now it is almost useless. I think OpenAI got “the bill” and basically turned it down.

I have seen this with other AI tools also. For example, some (ie meta) had the realtime art generation feature (like it is created as you type) but then they stopped.

I was told by an insider that its a cost thing…

I was browsing the images generated via DallE 3 from my firsts generations in October 2023 to my last month of usage in May 2024. The decline in quality is impressive.

I have the habit to classify my images or photos by week of the year and it is absolutely clear that there is a terrible drop that made the tool unusable starting from April 20th 2024.

At first, a “Pencil sketch” looked like actual pencil, with texture and detailed strokes.
After that date these details are completely gone…

I switched to Microsoft Copilot Pro. It still has great quality but the prompt is limited in length and you can’t choose image formats. Also, for whatever reason, it has a tendency to generate images that it later refuses, even with prompts that do not intend to generate inappropriate images at all…

The good thing is that you can generate more than one hundred images per day without having to argue with ChatGPT about limits, generation rate or repetitive submission of the same prompt (I am very finicky on the results ! It is my right !).

Why does Open Ai does not offer a similar service, with the DallE 3 model from February 2024, longer prompts, clear number of images per day displayed in yellow over black, and no disparaging comments in return from a prompt ?

Cannot justify but I noticed the quality decrease on week-end, seems like with high traffic lower resources are allocated for each image generation ( I also noticed that during downtime)

The decline in quality was indeed due to downtime, yesterday (16-august-2024) I did noticed decline in image quality for that period of time

The decline in quality I describe is not linked to any particular event. It occurs continuously, without stops, pauses or signs of amelioration since April 20th 2024…

I’m wondering why they can’t just limit amount wise rather than quality, since currently the images are near unusable with blurring and poor lighting

They pruned the model to lower the processor usage instead of establishing clear usage limits like in Copilot Designer… I really don’t understand the business model…

How does Microsoft do ? They offer Copilot designer for free !! 25 Images per day for everyone. And it returns 4 images per prompt !!!
With copilot pro I can send 160 prompts per day !! With four images in return each time !!!

With OpenAi you pay 20$ per month and you are limited in number of images per day and per hour, and you have to work with an extra light super-pruned model that gives poor results and returns one, maybe two images per prompt… If the planets are aligned…
I don’t get it…

I’m facing the same issue and I am literally thinking of unsubscribing. Photos I have generated, even a kids can generate better

I have already unsubscribed …
I made a retry this month to check if things where getting better but now I feel like that I have wasted 20$ and unsubscribed again…

DALLE-3 MESSED UP

My simple prompt’Create realistic image: A smiling girl taking a selfie with Samsung A20 phone , in front of a angry charging bison. =r> 16:9. HD."
It created it but the phone was transparent.!
At least it was polite …it

tried 2ce to regenerate from same prompt, apologized :grinning::grinning:then gave up.
Funny thing, DALLE-3 is yet to realize PHONE IS NOT TRANSPARENT?

No news or answers about that HUGE issue ? No one at OpenAI cares about that… Maybe it is more important to generate bad video than good usable images …

I was using my phone to generate so I didn’t notice much and then I transferred the images to my MacBook to edit with Caput, I almost cried. After that, I spent a whole week generating images. I don’t think I want to subscribe again. The quality was so bad
