I think something similar is happening to me as well, and fortunately, I see I am not the only one (as I hope they fix it because it is more than annoying).
My experience is that after reloading the chat, some prompts get merged into two, and the answer in between gets deleted.
This is very frustrating as I lose many useful content, and obtaining it again with long chats isn’t easy.
About the internet speed, as someone suggested, I have this issue with fiber internet, so I don’t think it’s that. It may also be caused by some weird sync with my IOS app, but I’m not sure.
Yeah the only “fix” if you can even call it that is to simply treat the chat the same way you would treat an old lawnmower, and restart or in this case refresh the page, and regenerate the response, over and over, after each one and wait until the response stays. It’s not efficient, it eats up credits like crazy, the responses you keep are potentially bad, but it’s the only solution I’ve found so far.
Have this bug been fixed yet? This issue is slowly becoming exhausting, because it eats up generations like crazy, and worse yet, you cannot edit the merged prompt except if you reverted to a previous edit of the prompt.
“Has anyone else encountered an issue where previously typed prompts merge into a single prompt, causing the deletion of the information I type? I am currently facing this problem on Chatgpt-3.5 and Chatgpt-4, which is becoming increasingly frustrating for me.” I’ve tried every fix and recommendations that chatgpt has recommended when I went to the OpenAI Help Center, but none of them worked when I tried it. I also been receiving messages on some of my chats saying that it is unable to fulfill a request, even though in the past, the requests that i put in always worked.
I have the same problem, also with ChatGPT4. It has been happening for a while now.
Somehow you’re in a chat and realize that the response you just got is answering your current question PLUS the one before. If you reload the chat, ChatGPT’s middle message disappears and your two messages merge.
Also, if you don’t reload the chat, you can keep asking questions, and ChatGPT will continue to respond to your 2, 3, 4 etc. previous messages along with the current one.
This has been happening to me for over a month now. Same issue everyone else here is describing. Dealing with this bug results in a lot of wasted time and “settling” for less-than-satisfactory responses.
For what it’s worth, I’ve experienced this issue in both Firefox and Chrome, both in and out of incognito mode.
