Feature Request: Smarter Voice Interactions for ChatGPT
I’d like to suggest improvements to ChatGPT’s voice interaction capabilities to make conversations feel more natural and efficient. Right now, ChatGPT’s voice mode lacks interruptibility and multi-speaker awareness, which limits real-time conversation.
1. Interruptibility Without False Triggers
- If I start speaking while ChatGPT is responding, ChatGPT should ask:
“Should I stop and let you speak?”
- This prevents interruptions from background noise, coughing, or other people talking while still allowing course correction.
2. Voice Recognition for Multi-Speaker Conversations
- ChatGPT should be able to recognize my voice and differentiate it from others.
- If I’m speaking with a friend, ChatGPT should only respond to recognized voices.
- If someone uninvited speaks, I should be able to tell ChatGPT to ignore them.
3. Adaptive Turn-Taking
- If multiple people speak at once, ChatGPT should ask:
“Who wants to go first?”
- If two people in the conversation are talking to each other, ChatGPT should stay silent and listen instead of interrupting.
- If someone briefly reacts (e.g., “uh-huh”), ChatGPT should continue speaking instead of stopping.
