Severe Lag in Advanced Voice and Video Modes on Android – Persistent Issue Since Launch

I’ve been experiencing significant performance issues with the ChatGPT Android app since the release of Advanced Voice Mode, and I’m wondering if others are facing the same or if there are any known fixes.

I use a Redmi Note 13 running Android 14. Since Advanced Voice Mode launched, the app has been extremely laggy — animations stutter, the phone freezes, and everything slows down considerably.

When I try switching to Video Mode, the lag becomes even worse, making it nearly impossible to have a conversation due to the extreme slowness.

What I’ve Tried:

• Reinstalling the app

• Clearing the cache

• Factory resetting the phone

None of these solutions have worked. This issue has been present since the launch of Advanced Voice Mode, and it seems like there hasn’t been a fix yet. iPhone users don’t seem to experience this problem, suggesting it might be an Android optimization issue.

I’d like to know:

  1. Is this a known issue?

  2. Are there plans to optimize the app for Android devices?

  3. Is there an option to disable animations in Advanced Voice Mode to improve performance?

Works fine on my Samsung tab s7… But on other mi devices it occurs. Something related to not using GPU fully. But it really sucks…

Could be a redmi issue… Need input of high end users maybe the processor isn’t powerful enough which seems unlikely.

The development on Android tragically is not a optimized for manufacturer’s hardware and APIs like native Samsung and Google apps are. Android seems to be a bit of an afterthought for the development team. So it’s windows. They need to build these apps much better to work with the hardware vendors but they compete with both Samsung and Google and are partnered with Apple. It’s a real shame it will open up competition.

So I’ve found a solution basically to launch video mode and then share screen and then shift to camera app…

Im having the same problem. Even the developement team contacted me to bring more information about the problem, but i couldn’t get any solution from them even bringing them more data.

Since launch i’ve been having this problem, and a lot of users are having the same issue.
