Search Feature in ChatGPT to Find Specific Words or Topics in Conversation History

I would like to propose the introduction of a search functionality within the ChatGPT interface. This feature would enable users to search for specific words or topics within their conversation history. As a frequent user of ChatGPT, I often find myself wanting to refer back to previous discussions or topics I have explored with the AI. Currently, this requires manually scrolling through the chat history, which can be time-consuming and inefficient, especially for long-term users with extensive chat histories.

The proposed search feature would allow users to quickly and easily locate specific parts of their conversations without having to manually sift through their entire chat history. This would not only enhance user experience but also make the platform more accessible and user-friendly, especially for educational, research, or professional purposes where specific information might need to be revisited. I believe this feature would significantly improve the usability of ChatGPT for all users. :four_leaf_clover:

This is my biggest feature request too. I find it so frustrating not being able to search for previous chats so that I can then continue a conversation with the same context and any personality additions that I made. I find scrolling through the chat painful, and most times I just have to give up and start a new chat.

The proposed feature would definitely be a life saver for me.

Yes please 100%
After using this amazing tool since it launched my list of chats has become so long. I am finding more and more that I want to continue a conversation and it takes a lot of effort, manually looking through everything.

Please consider adding this feature! It would really help.

Hey, I made a site where you can search through the conversation history. It also has models switching during chats, pay-as-you-go pricing, etc. Check betterai.tech. Show your interest and support, I’m aiming to improve AI interfaces significantly

There is an extension for that, “Searchable ChatGPT”

It creates a local index and then you can search immediately

it’s crazy… I wind up opening my iOS app to find the conversation, then try to re-find it on my desktop  … any updates on this issue?

Just use Chrome Extension: 1Proompt

I also would like to see this feature integrated directly into the website/Android app, avoiding the need to use Chrome extensions and/or other tools.

Furthermore, I would like to propose allowing the AI to access our old conversations to “remember” discussions and thus continue from where we left off by asking a simple question, whether written or spoken.

Try Echoes https://Echoes.r2bits.com
Allows for full text search for multiple personal chatgpt or team workspaces accounts as well as multiple claude accounts all in one extension.

I think one of the reasons it’s not there is that it would beat the purpose of the model learning. Every prompt is an opportunity for the model to learn i.e. how people ask questions, how to answer them e.t.c. Providing a search functionality skips this.

I find that the mobile version of ChatGBT search abilities are inconsistent and hard to find previous conversations

Good news guys, it has finally become an official feature.
