Sam Altman leaving: OpenAI announces leadership transition

Even more shocking would be to see Sam Altman starting another AI company in the coming months.

Yes, it’s called lying by omission.

i like potatoes and cranberries. (extra sentence)

Sam Altman

i loved my time at openai. it was transformative for me personally, and hopefully the world a little bit. most of all i loved working with such talented people. will have more to say about what’s next later. 🫡

Yeah, I had to change my line (not being not candid… difficult grammar for non-native).

That looks suspiciously like the anti earthquake stability mass in a highrise.

I think it’s from a movie or TV show? Can’t remember which, though…

The image you’ve uploaded is from the TV show “Person of Interest.” It depicts “The Machine,” a supercomputer that is a central element of the show’s plot, which involves artificial intelligence and surveillance. ~ChatGPT-4

Same vibes

“Not consistently candid” begs for explanation.

Shocker. This will be very interesting to see what happens next.

This news is really giving people worry overall. I honestly trusted Sam, or at least what I witnessed of him in his role. I knew he was probably hiding information from everyone but for a good reason. I just hope openai isnt trying to go public on the stock market trying to find one reason to get someone who I felt would never let that happen, at least in the foreseeable future.

Going public I really believe would start a juggernaut in the momentum of snowballing quickly down a very bad road for humanity, giving more ignorant and careless investors full abilities to pull this company away from its core beliefs and morals down a dangerous path in desire for more profit. If openai wasnt the king of the castle so to speak, id probably care less.

This is just a very odd situation that almost demands clarity and transparency about what happened, what was the boards real motive here? If sam starts a new project, ill probably jump on that myself because I really respect and trust him most compared to other guru ceos of the tech field. If openai starts going down the road I disagree with, I might just bail on my paid services with them. If anyone of the board members are reading this, please heavily reconsider ousting sam and invite him back. I and many others around the world have our stomachs in our mouths as they say about this. If your not going to reverse your decision then I honest to god believe the board owes us supportors and paid users a proper and fully transparent expenation of what he lied about or misled them about, etc.

Ive loved this company until about 2 hours ago, now I feel confused and wonder about the future of this tech in terms of a righteous outlook on humanity. I never had much fear before today with this field, knowing how fast this industry is going.

Totally. They can’t say this without any context and expect us to just be cool with it.

So what, did Sam Altman send someone a ChatGPT-response email? Or is there concern? Lol. Man. Whack AF. Drama.

Watch Sam is about to pull a steve jobs on us…

Agreed. The trust may have been broken between the board and sam, but this move is almost breaking our trust in the companies motives. Board members are easily replaceable compared to a ceo. I just wish we could collectively make this a ctrl+z moment to undo the massive hiccup this board just seemed to create in an emerging indusrty.

Damn, I walk away from the forum for 2 hours and this happens

Of course. Of course.

It was either yesterday or the day before I was re-watching some of Sam’s talk. And I was thinking “Huh. Interesting. I think I like Sam. Seems like a likeable person who just happens to be spearheading one of the biggest most disruptive tech-centric technologies in a while. Lol yeah I guess he kind of doesn’t really fit in.” Well. I wasn’t thinking that as something that required any action to be taken. It was just a personal observation. Jeesh …

I dunno. This is so shocking. Not a Sam fan but I have trust in him to lead OpenAI. But now we have some faceless directors who oust him. But why? Tell us why…

Not so sure about that. But, although no effect of technical, there might be some implications regarding to the funcitonal aspects of OpenAI’s services.

One of them are the sudden change of their usage terms and policy terms that made OpenAI almost invincible no matter what.
**I suspect there were some intense politics inside that he was abruptly “changed”. With all the ideologues all over, I doubt the new leadership Mira will give better leadership than Sam. **
And the new guideline and policy making are getting stricter and leaving no room to breathe, suffocating many userbases and with one of the worst customer services AI, who can guess lol? OpenAI at best should be treated as kids’ gloves. Professionally? maybe, only in some aspects.

My works are still gone until now and I am still furious about my latest journal articles that I wrote on their platform suddenly poofed and nothing got done…

Sam Altman!

You’ll always be my favorite schoolboy, I simply can’t stay mad at that face!

Agreed, but I honestly think this is all the transparency we will ever get:

But I also think that’s enough information to understand what happened here, because we have to remember that there’s contracts and obligations that has to be fulfilled, so it’s not just “you lied about not farting in the elevator”, it’s much more likely to be related to information disclosure about his other obligations (like Y-combinator)

The board most likely didn’t have a choice, lack of proper disclosures will get the SEC on your ass real quick.

Does the SEC have much say or swing in a private company tho? Or are you implying you think they want to go public?
