I hope this email finds you well. My name is John Lewis, and I am a genetic counseling master’s student at The University of Oklahoma Health Science Center (OUHSC). As part of my graduation requirements, I am undertaking a thesis project focused on exploring the role and effectiveness of ChatGPT as a decision-making tool in the context of genetic testing for individuals with differences in sexual development (DSD).
The working title of my thesis is “Conversational decision making with ChatGPT: An effective decision-making tool in DSD genetic testing?” The objective of my research is to investigate how ChatGPT can assist parents in seeking relevant information and making informed decisions about genetic testing for their children, especially those belonging to this sensitive population. Given the growing popularity of chat-based AI tools, I believe that people may increasingly rely on ChatGPT to gather information in their decision-making processes.
While my thesis committee and I are enthusiastic about this project, we acknowledge that we are not experts in this technology.
