Feedback/Feature Request:
Currently, the ChatGPT mobile app abruptly cuts off long conversations with a “thread has reached its maximum” error without any advance warning. This makes it impossible to ask ChatGPT to summarize the thread or extract key points before the conversation is locked.
I would like to request two major quality-of-life updates for the mobile app:
- Thread Continuity: A built-in feature that allows users to easily branch, extend, or carry over the context of a maxed-out thread into a new conversation without losing momentum. The memory feature is helpful, but even with it enabled, when a new thread is started, ChatGPT will forget many key details and mannerisms and has to be reminded.
- Proactive Warnings: A visual indicator or warning message when a thread is nearing 80% or 90% of its maximum capacity. This would give users a chance to manually summarize or export their data before the thread locks down. Then they could take that summary into the new thread and continue from where they left off.
