I am experiencing that ChatGPT 4o automatically resets the environment all the time. Now this happens when I end a session but now it’s happening repeatedly in the same chat without ending the session. I had to feed in the information every single time to get the similar or related answer.
Same… many other complaining about this. I’ve seen no official responses to this. It’s ridiculous with a subscription service. So much wasted time/ energy
Hello…we find out same problem. Is it something what can we do with that ? How to prevent ? Because it´s not effiecient when you working on tasks and few hours later chat reset without wanting the enf of chat.
Did you try contacting the support ?
-Thank you
I’ve had the same issue. My project has been running for 6 days. The output is supposed to be a 30 page technical document with graphics. For the past 3 days there has been zero progress because every time I ask for a link to the file, there is a reset and all the material is lost. I’ve had to upload an old version 16 times and still can’t get a completed document.
This is absolutely unacceptable for a subscription service.
The fact that there has been no official response sums this product up.
Wow, first post back in January. I am still having same issue in mid-May. My project has been going on for 1 week with only first step completed because all subsequent keeps getting lost due to “environment resets”. I asked AI if it could save interim work every few hours and it says okay but then doesn’t do it. If I keep asking for updates, I eventually get message that I need to come back in 24 hrs even though I have Pro subscription. I gave Gemini the same problem and it was done in 4 days with no lost data. ChatGPT can’t get past the 1st day worth of results; every day since this is lost from an “environment reset”.
Exactly the same situation for me. I have lost dozens of hours and the work product is gone . ChatGPT even wrote up reports for support and they insist on "screen recordings’ (but since the data is lost I cant show them the error
Confirming I am still having this issue as well on June 4th…aystem noted it kept losing my data due to environmental resets.. Only way to stop it was basically on the same thread every 25 minutes to type in update or still here to prevent… Since Open AI won’t fix it anyone have any ideas on how to auto type on an android update every 25 minutes… Thought I would see if app available.
The stupid thing assures me it hasn’t reset, then tells me it’s reset after waiting an hour for some basic rewriting to be done. It can’t cope with any sort of volume. Just wants to do things 1 line at a time. How is Ai the future?
Same still happening June 25, 2025. Small research papers of approximately 6 pages cannot even finish due to environmental resets and possible limits on export times. 5 days completely wasted, stupid anthropomorphic messages of “sorry”, and “I neglected to…” . MANY MANY errors. This is unusable, and I do not see why I should keep my subscription. Is ChatGPT doing this on purpose to throttle bandwidth? I suspect so! But let the word get out, it is useless for some key purposes, and I am now actively looking for other services to replace it.
A dataset compiled by ChatGPT could not be provided to me at once due to system instability (envronmental resets). In fact, though only 9 columns wide, the system could only provide export of the dataset TEN rows at a time! More than that risked data loss and restart. Also, despite providing instructions not to wait for prompts, but to sequentially provide the data in 10 row chunks at a time, it will not process them unless I prompt it EVERY TIME. Wow, this is terrible performance.
I’m having the same problem (week of July 20th). I am having ChatGPT 4o parse a ~2,700 line CSV file and sort the data using web research. Each update is achingly slow, and the environment has been reset 3 times now, and it has to start from scratch every time. I was trying to save myself about a day’s worth of work doing this manually, but have now spent 3-5x that trying to get ChatGPT to do it.
I was willing to invest the time to troubleshoot it so I can be more efficient the next time I have this task, but the fact that it cannot complete the task even once without the environment resetting is beyond frustrating. I am literally on the LAST step of the process (99% done) and it reports the reset and asks me to reupload my CSV file again, at which point it seems to forget most/all of the thinking it had done and seems to start from scratch.
I am still seeing this problem on July 25th. I have been asking it to save files to disk to survive a reset. I also asked it to process in smaller batches and save along the way. It fails every time. It knows it’s making mistakes, but does not seem able to correct it. FWIW I am having much better luck with Claude on this task since it can write to disk.
The same thing continues to happen with me. I’m asking for a theme analysis on 60 sermons I’ve preached and an integrated theology from this. It resets each day instead.
The workaround I’m using is to update the work each hour, asking for the current work to post in the chat so that any lost information remains there. It can then go back and see what work it’s already done. It’s more cumbersome this way, and I’m only a day into it, but there is some progress to this.
Apparently this is a storage and time issue for ChatGPT. It’s too bad as I think this could be a powerful tool if this reset issue were fixed.
Why don’t we let Sam know what crap his product is…… The guy obviously doesn’t care - he loves money - that it’s. This has happened to me more then times I can count - and I would think for $200 a month that guy could produce a working product.
It is september 15, and the resets are still there. Nothing has changed. I have two partial workarounds. When the work product is a file, like a Word document, instead of asking for a huperlink that is almost always expired or the useless sandbox non-link, I have it write the python script that generates the word file. Then I copy the .py and run python3 on my macbook, voilá the word file is there. Similarity when the output I need is CSV, instead of the invariably bad link to dowload it, I ask to output the CSV in the chat, then copy / paste it. Saved me hours in frustration.
