Rejected apps - App name too generic

The auto rejection for app name being too generic is kind of crazy. It rejected the following names:

  • Mentirosa

  • Leyware Music

Can someone from OAI explain what ‘too generic’ even means?

The auto rejection happens after submitting or when you enter the name? Never got it.

Not directly applicable but I got a rejection because they didn’t like the category I picked (but didn’t say specifically why). It would be really nice if this process was more like the App Store (never thought I would say that, lol) and there was a “metadata rejected” state that was much easier to correct than re-submitting everything and presumably re-entering the 2+ month queue. Sheesh.

OAI has a long way to go as far as building out the whole app submission and discovery parts of this platform.

Hey Demetrius, yeah, that’s a bit confusing.

“Too generic” usually means the name sounds like a broad category or common term rather than a distinct brand. But honestly, those examples don’t obviously feel generic. [Dev doc]

Is this happening instantly when you type the name in, or after you submit for review? If it’s instant, it’s probably an automated rule. If it’s after submission, that’s manual review criteria.

If you can share when it’s triggering, that might help narrow down what’s going on.

Its during the approval process. It looks like an automate checker or filter that isn’t working correctly.
