Subject: Question About the Future Support of AI Ecosystems and Long-Term Operating Systems in ChatGPT
Dear OpenAI Support Team,
I would like to ask a question regarding the future direction of ChatGPT and whether a specific use case is technically aligned with the platform’s roadmap.
I am currently using ChatGPT not simply as a chatbot, but as the central component of a personal AI ecosystem. In this setup, ChatGPT acts as a strategic command center that helps coordinate long-term projects, leadership development, planning, decision-making, personal growth, and workflow management.
My vision is to gradually build a true AI operating system around ChatGPT, where the AI helps manage goals, projects, reviews, priorities, and knowledge over many years. The system would ideally function as a persistent mission-control environment rather than a collection of individual conversations.
At the moment, I can simulate much of this through prompts, memory, dashboards, and structured workflows. However, there are still limitations regarding:
persistent dashboards,
project state tracking,
visual progress indicators,
long-term mission management,
integrated workflow orchestration,
and deeper coordination between multiple AI tools and systems.
My question is:
Is the concept of using ChatGPT as the central hub of a broader AI ecosystem and long-term personal operating system technically compatible with OpenAI’s future vision for the product?
I am not asking for confidential roadmap information. I would simply like to understand whether this type of use case is generally moving in the same direction as future ChatGPT development, or whether there are fundamental technical limitations that would prevent such an approach from becoming practical.
Thank you for your time and for the continued development of the platform.
Kind regards,
Ron
Thanks for sharing this, @Ron2.
While nobody outside OpenAI can speak to future roadmap details, the idea of using ChatGPT as a long-term thinking partner and coordination hub seems broadly consistent with OpenAI's stated mission of building AI that helps people be more capable, productive, and effective.
Many of the capabilities you're describing, such as memory, project organization, knowledge management, and AI-assisted planning, are areas that have gradually expanded over time. The current limitations around dashboards, workflow orchestration, and persistent project management feel more like areas that are still evolving rather than signs that the concept itself is incompatible with the platform.
Ultimately, whether ChatGPT becomes a full "AI operating system" remains to be seen, but your vision appears aligned with a future where AI plays a deeper role in helping people manage complex, long-term goals and work.
