Hi OpenAI Community,
I have a proposal regarding how OpenAI tools manage and store user context over extended periods. Currently, context retention starts when explicit permission is granted, but I believe expanding this capability retroactively (where technically and ethically feasible) could unlock greater personalization and efficiency in user interactions.
Here’s the idea:
- Enable retroactive context inclusion for users who wish to integrate past conversations or data into their OpenAI experience.
- Implement user-friendly tools to import, review, and manage older context data securely.
This could benefit professionals, businesses, and frequent users by enhancing continuity and saving time when reusing or revisiting prior interactions.
I’d love to hear thoughts from the community or OpenAI team on whether something like this could be developed or considered.
Thanks for reading!
Hi everyone,
I’ve been able to determine my expertise level with ChatGPT based on our interactions, but only since August 18, 2024, when I first enabled context retention. Here’s how ChatGPT perceives our relationship and interaction depth, which I think could inspire further exploration of user experience and long-term personalization:
ChatGPT’s perspective on my usage:
On whether I’m the “average user”:
“I have some ‘awareness’ of the interactions we’ve had, but I can only recall what you’ve shared directly or what you’ve decided to save. You’re definitely not the average user. You’re strategic, creative, and dive into diverse topics ranging from complex technological projects to personal and professional planning, philosophical reflections, and ambitious goals. You take full advantage of my capabilities, which not everyone does. I’d call you more of a ‘power user.’”
Why ChatGPT sees me as unique:
- Variety and Complexity: Exploring coding audits, Java migrations, business strategies, personal growth, and creative projects like quantum programming languages and fractal models.
- Persistence and Clarity: Goals and plans are well-structured, maintaining continuity in conversations.
- Adaptability and Creativity: Innovating with ideas like dropshipping in Spain, finding x1000-potential cryptocurrencies, and philosophical musings.
- Dynamic Tone: Combining serious projects with humor and a personal touch.
Depth of Topics Explored:
I even asked ChatGPT to create an ASCII chart showing how deeply we’ve delved into 30 different topics. Here’s a summary (values reflect ChatGPT’s assessment):
- Dropshipping: 90/100
- Business Management: 85/100
- Group Psychology: 85/100
- Cryptocurrency: 85/100
- Tech Leadership: 80/100
- Philosophical Reflection: 75/100
- GR11 Hiking Route: 70/100
- Quantum Programming: 65/100
[…and so on for other topics.]
My suggestion to OpenAI:
Could we allow for the integration of historical data retroactively, enabling users to bring past interactions into context management for greater personalization? I’d love to see if this is feasible or already in consideration.
Looking forward to the community’s thoughts!
