Feature Request: OpenAI Creative Studio — A Dedicated Image & Video Creation Platform for ChatGPT
The idea
I would like to propose a dedicated OpenAI Creative Studio inside the ChatGPT ecosystem: a focused workspace for creating, editing, organizing, and animating images and videos.
ChatGPT already has increasingly powerful image-generation and editing capabilities. I believe the next logical step is to give those capabilities a dedicated creative environment rather than making users perform complex visual workflows entirely through a chat interface.
The goal would be simple:
ChatGPT is the AI assistant. Creative Studio is the creative workspace.
This could also give OpenAI a stronger platform for competing with dedicated AI creative products such as Google Flow.
1. Image Studio
Users should be able to choose the image model before generating or editing.
For example:
- GPT Image 2
- GPT Image 1.5
- Future image models
The interface could provide:
Model → Aspect Ratio → Quality → Number of Outputs → References → Prompt → Generate
Aspect ratio
- 1:1
- 3:4
- 4:3
- 9:16
- 16:9
- Custom, where supported
Quality / resolution
- 1K
- 2K
- 4K
- 8K in the future, if supported by the model
For example, 4K could mean a maximum dimension of approximately 3840 px, while 8K could mean approximately 7680 px.
The selected resolution would affect generation cost/resources.
2. Multiple Outputs
Allow users to select the number of images generated at once:
- 1
- 2
- 4
- 8
This would make creative exploration much easier.
A user could generate several compositions, select the best one, and continue editing that version.
3. Reference Images & Advanced Editing
Creative Studio should have a dedicated reference-image workflow.
Potential tools:
- Multiple reference images
- Identity/character consistency
- Inpainting
- Outpainting
- Object replacement
- Object removal
- Background replacement
- Clothing changes
- Variations
- Image extension
- Selective editing
The workflow could be:
Reference → Generate → Edit → Variation → Final
4. Flagship Model Quotas
I suggest that quotas be based partly on model generation, rather than simply limiting all image generation equally.
For example, if GPT Image 2 is the current flagship:
Free
GPT Image 2: 10 generations/day
GPT Image 1.5: substantially more generous usage, potentially unlimited subject to fair-use/rate limits
Go
Much higher GPT Image 2 allowance
Plus
Significantly higher GPT Image 2 allowance
Pro
Very high GPT Image 2 allowance with priority access
These numbers are only examples. OpenAI could determine the actual limits according to infrastructure and usage economics.
The important principle is:
The newest flagship model gets the tightest limits, while previous-generation models become increasingly accessible over time.
5. Make Previous Flagships More Accessible
This could create a very useful model lifecycle.
For example:
GPT Image 2 → flagship
Then GPT Image 3 launches:
GPT Image 3 → new flagship
GPT Image 2 → ex-flagship with significantly higher quotas
Later:
GPT Image 4 → new flagship
GPT Image 3 → ex-flagship
GPT Image 2 → highly accessible workhorse
This would make older models increasingly useful instead of immediately becoming obsolete.
It also gives users a meaningful choice:
Maximum quality → newest model
More generations → previous-generation model
6. Don’t Block the Entire Studio When a Quota Is Reached
If a Free user reaches the GPT Image 2 limit, Creative Studio should still work.
For example:
GPT Image 2 limit reached
You’ve reached today’s GPT Image 2 generation limit.
Try GPT Image 1.5, wait for the daily reset, or upgrade for a higher GPT Image 2 allowance.
This is much better than disabling image generation completely.
7. Video Studio
The second major component would be video generation.
Two fundamental workflows:
Text → Video
and
Image → Video
The second one could be especially powerful.
A finished image could simply have an:
Animate
button.
Then the user chooses:
- Aspect ratio
- Duration
- Quality/resolution
- Video model
and generates the video.
This creates a natural:
Text → Image → Video
workflow inside one platform.
8. Video Controls
Before generating:
Aspect Ratio
- 16:9
- 9:16
- 1:1
- 4:3
- 3:4
- Custom, where supported
Duration
For example:
- 5s
- 10s
- 15s
- 30s
Quality
For example:
- 720p
- 1080p
- 1440p
- 4K
Higher quality and longer duration should require more computational resources.
9. Transparent Video Points
Video generation could use a monthly credit system.
For example:
- Go: 1,000 points/month
- Plus: 5,000 points/month
- Pro: 15,000 points/month
Again, these are example values.
The point cost could depend on:
Model + Duration + Resolution + other compute-intensive settings
For example:
5s / 720p → lower cost
10s / 1080p → higher cost
10s / 4K → substantially higher cost
Most importantly, the interface should show the estimated cost before generation.
Example:
Estimated cost: 350 points
This prevents unexpected credit consumption.
10. Creative Projects & Version History
Creative Studio should support projects.
For example:
Project: HUT RI 81
Inside the project:
- Reference images
- Image generations
- Edited versions
- Final images
- Videos
- Prompts
- Generation history
Each asset could have:
Edit · Variation · Remix · Animate · Duplicate · Download
And users should be able to return to previous versions.
This would turn Creative Studio into a real workspace rather than a collection of disconnected generations.
11. Generation Quality vs Download Quality
I suggest separating these two concepts.
Before generation
Generation Quality
1K / 2K / 4K / future 8K
This determines the native generation quality and computational cost.
After generation
Download / Export
Original / lower-resolution export / supported formats
If an upscaler is available, it should be explicitly labeled:
Upscale to 4K
rather than implying that a lower-resolution generation was natively generated at 4K.
12. Creative Studio Should Be Included With ChatGPT Plans
I strongly recommend that Creative Studio be part of existing ChatGPT subscription tiers (no price hikes) rather than requiring a completely separate subscription.
Conceptually:
Free
ChatGPT + Creative Studio
- Limited flagship image generations
- More generous access to older image models
- Basic editing
Go
ChatGPT + Creative Studio
- Higher ChatGPT limits
- Much higher flagship image allowance
- More image editing
- Video credits, e.g. 1,000/month
Plus
ChatGPT + Creative Studio
- Higher image/video allowances
- Advanced creative capabilities
- Video credits, e.g. 5,000/month
Pro
ChatGPT + Creative Studio
- Very high image usage
- Highest priority
- Advanced image/video capabilities
- Video credits, e.g. 15,000/month
The exact quotas should be determined by OpenAI.
The key idea is:
When someone subscribes to Go, Plus, or Pro, they should receive expanded creative-generation capacity as part of the same subscription.
13. Why I Think the Timing Matters
AI image and video generation is becoming increasingly competitive.
GPT Image 2 has demonstrated very strong performance in third-party image-generation and image-editing evaluations, and I have attached recent Arena leaderboard screenshots as additional context.
The screenshots show GPT Image 2 at the top of both:
- Text-to-Image
- Image Editing
This is not presented as an official OpenAI benchmark; it is simply evidence of the competitive position of the model at the time of the screenshots.
The important point is that OpenAI already has a very strong creative engine.
The opportunity now is to build the studio around that engine.
14. The Bigger Opportunity
A dedicated Creative Studio could bring together:
AI image generation
↓
Image editing
↓
Reference images
↓
Project/version management
↓
Animation
↓
Video generation
all inside the OpenAI ecosystem.
Instead of:
“ChatGPT can also generate images.”
it becomes:
“OpenAI provides a complete AI-powered creative workspace.”
That is a much more powerful product proposition.

Final Thought
I believe OpenAI has an opportunity to build something significantly bigger than an image-generation feature.
The models are the engine.
Creative Studio could be the vehicle.
A product combining:
ChatGPT reasoning + GPT Image + video generation + reference workflows + project management
could become a major creative platform in its own right.
I hope OpenAI will consider exploring this direction while the opportunity is still relatively open.
Please consider forwarding this proposal to the relevant product/creative-tool teams.
Thank you for reading and considering the idea.
