I’d like to propose a feature that could greatly enhance the ChatGPT experience: Project-Specific Memory.
The Problem
Currently, memory in ChatGPT is global, meaning it remembers details across all conversations. However, users often work on multiple projects or topics simultaneously (e.g., a startup, a research paper, and personal learning). Without a way to isolate memory per project, there’s a risk of context overlap or irrelevant details influencing responses.
Proposed Feature
Introduce a Project-Specific Memory option, allowing users to create and manage distinct “memory spaces” within ChatGPT. Users could:
- Assign memory to a specific project folder
- Enable/disable memory for each project
- Reset or delete memory for a single project without affecting others
Key Benefits
- Better Context Management – Users can keep discussions organized without mixing unrelated information.
- Improved Privacy & Control – Users can reset or erase memory for one project without losing details from others.
- Enhanced Productivity – Switching between projects becomes seamless, reducing the need to re-explain context every time.
- More Accurate Responses – ChatGPT can focus on the relevant project, reducing misunderstandings caused by unrelated past conversations.
This feature would greatly enhance ChatGPT’s usability for entrepreneurs, students, researchers, and professionals managing multiple workflows.
