I would like to propose a feature addressing the environmental impact of AI-generated content. Generating images requires physical infrastructure, electricity, cooling systems, and other resources. However, from the user’s perspective, the process appears entirely intangible: you type a prompt, and an image appears seconds later.
My proposal is not to arbitrarily ban or limit image generation, but rather to introduce brief, educational alerts during periods of intensive use.
For example:
- After several consecutive generations, display a short message noting that image generation consumes computing resources and has an environmental impact.
The goal is not to make users feel guilty or to hinder legitimate use of the tool, but to encourage more mindful usage.
I believe this could be particularly important given social media trends, where many people generate numerous images purely for entertainment and then discard them. While it may seem insignificant on an individual level, the cumulative consumption across millions of users can be substantial.
AI holds enormous potential to benefit humanity. Precisely for this reason, I believe it should also help us develop responsible habits regarding the resources required for it to operate.
