Prevent ChatGPT from using dashes and indented bullet points

Hi all,

I’m trying to stop ChatGPT from using dashes in prose, especially so-called em dashes (—) used in full sentences. These make the text look artificial and are not how humans typically write. Hyphens or dashes used in lists are fine. Indented bullet points are also unwanted in emails.

My current custom instruction has no effect:

Avoid using dashes or hyphens in your texts. Write complete sentences and use clear transitions. Use connecting words such as “because,” “therefore,” “at the same time,” or other appropriate connecting words. This will make your texts more fluent, coherent, well-rounded, and, above all, more human. It is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT that ChatGPT does not write like a typical AI/LLM, but expresses itself like a human writer. Humans do not use dashes.

Has anyone found a way to reliably suppress em dash usage in ChatGPT’s output?

It is not possible 100% to prevent it because of training data. AI works gueasing next word, next word, next word… But we can reduce it.
