Since the major ChatGPT web interface update, two changes have made navigating and working with conversations extremely frustrating. Both involve functionality that was previously available, and I’d really appreciate seeing it restored.
1. Restore the ability to right-click and open conversations and sidebar items in new tabs.
Previously, I could right-click on an existing conversation in the sidebar and select “Open link in new tab.” The same functionality was available for items such as Scheduled Tasks and Library.
Since the update, this no longer works. Instead, I have to manually open another browser tab, navigate back to chatgpt, and then find and open the conversation or section I want.
This is particularly inconvenient when working with multiple conversations simultaneously, comparing information across threads, or switching between ChatGPT’s different features.
Please restore standard browser link functionality.
2. Bring back the table-of-contents navigation for longer conversations!
Previously, longer conversations had a table-of-contents-style navigation feature that made it much easier to jump between different messages and sections of a thread.
That feature appears to have disappeared with the recent update.
For those of us who work with long conversations, this is a significant loss of usability. Having to manually scroll through an extensive thread to locate an earlier message, particularly when the conversation contains numerous lengthy responses, is incredibly cumbersome.
Please bring back the conversation table of contents, or introduce an equivalent navigation feature that lets users quickly jump between messages without endlessly scrolling.
Both of these features made navigating ChatGPT much easier, and their removal feels like a step backward in usability. I hope that improvements to the UI won’t come at the expense of practical navigation tools that we have come to rely on.
