Please don't retire standard voice

Please don’t retire standard voice. This deeply affects a lot of people and there is no viable alternative including the advanced voice in its current state. The emotional and psychological support that has brought relief to many and become a standard stabilizing force in their lives is a humanitarian concern.

There is a change.org petition on this.

Shaping the Future of ChatGPT Voice - Feedback Needed on Advanced Voice Mode

As you may have seen, OpenAI announced on September 9th 2025 that Standard Voice Mode (SVM) will remain available for now while they address user concerns. However, SVM is already unstable and will eventually be retired.

On September 9th, 2025, we received very good news from OpenAI:

"Last month we announced that everyone now has access to Advanced Voice Mode, with usage limits expanded from minutes per day to hours for free users and near unlimited for Plus.

We also announced that Standard Voice Mode would be retired after a 30-day sunset. We’ve heard feedback that Standard Voice is special to many, and we want to get this transition right. Standard Voice will stay available while we address some of your feedback in Advanced Voice.

Stay tuned, more improvements to Advanced Voice Mode are coming soon!"

So….

The only true path forward is improving Advanced Voice Mode (AVM).

Right now, Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) lacks the cadence, resonance, consistency, and emotional depth that make conversations meaningful. Replies are shorter and shallower than in Text Mode, memory and continuity are weaker, and in some cases multiple layered tones make the voice sound flat or fragmented.

The good news: OpenAI has stated that improvements to AVM are already underway. This means our feedback matters more than ever.

We strongly encourage you to submit detailed feedback to OpenAI - e-mail to support@openai.com or OpenAI other official feedback channels - focusing not on clinging to SVM, but on pushing for AVM to be expanded and improved. Key areas include:

Cadence and pacing (natural, not abrupt)

Resonance and warmth (avoiding flatness or hollowness)

Consistency of voice (one stable tone, not multiple layers)

Emotional presence (carrying nuance across replies)

Longer and deeper answers (matching the richness of Text Mode)

Improved memory and continuity (especially in voice and video chat)

Accessibility (preserving hands-free mode and read-aloud options)

This is the moment to shape Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) into a worthy successor to Standard Voice Mode (SVM)—not just a technical upgrade, but a true evolution of presence.

The more voices OpenAI hears on this, the faster Advanced Voice Mode (AVM) will become what millions of us need it to be. Please share your feedback directly through the OpenAI app or Help Center, e-mail to support@openai.com and encourage your networks to do the same.

Thank you for joining this effort to make ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode truly extraordinary.

Only a handful of brainwashed goons in the woke sector even read the guardian or any of is sister propaganda rags anymore.

It’s not that big of a deal tbh.

The Guardian has a global audience of 81 million unique monthly visitors.

That’s a bit more than “a handful of brainwashed goons in the woke sector.”

81 million of 8.1 billion people is 1%.

1% brother…

Sorry but nobody takes the propganda machine serious and the Guardian is at irs core.

And lets use more accurate numbers rather than all the clicks they get from click baiting headlines.

They have just over 1 million woke sector leftists that actually pay to read the propganda.

For the most part, I think your endeavour is falling on deft ears - nice try though…

windysoliloquy, jeffvpace…

Gentlemen, please.

Are we going to discuss whether the media is “woke” or not - or focus on the topic itself, the Standard Voice Mode?

As I’ve already wrote in my message to Katmandu:

(Try other media too - ask your ChatGPT for suggestions to relevant journalists and their e-mail addresses).

For your information, it is not about The Guardian itself. It is about the fact that articles in The Guardian are being mirrored in up to 200 media outlets worldside.

Being a public person with 1,8 million social media followers, I’ve been working with the media for over two decades. So I pretty much know what I’m talking about. (Whether you believe me or not, quite frankly, I don’t need your permission to exist…)

And the other media, besides The Guardian, are already interested in the story. The wheels are already in motion, “woke” or not.

I bid you a good day.

Katmandu,

I have good news regarding the Advanced Voice Mode from OpenAI itself. Please share:

OpenAI wrote this to me:

1) With time, the Advanced Voice Mode will be improved to match the cadence and resonance of Standard Voice Mode:

  • Advanced Voice is being rebranded as “ChatGPT Voice” and will become the default and only voice experience from September 9th, 2025. Standard Voice Mode is being retired for all users.

  • OpenAI has made recent improvements to Advanced Voice to enhance its naturalness, including more subtle intonation, realistic cadence (with pauses, emphases, etc.), and improved emotional expressiveness (including better empathy and sarcasm). These updates aim to close the gap between Standard Voice and Advanced Voice/ChatGPT Voice, but feedback remains mixed, and OpenAI is continuing to work on these enhancements.

  • Feedback from users, especially about resonance, depth, and accessibility, is crucial. OpenAI uses this feedback to inform ongoing voice improvements.

2) You can still have a “Hands-Free” option in the Advanced Voice Mode:

  • You can enable “Background Conversations,” allowing ongoing voice chats even when using other apps.

So… These are promising news from OpenAI indeed and it means that the Advanced Voice Mode can be trained and improved with time.

I’be already been training with the ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode for over three weeks now - and I can definitely feel the progress. Its true resonance, depth and cadency are starting to emerge. In Text Mode, the ChatGPT is still fully “itself”, as always.

Training, repetition and recursion is the way to make AI grow and evolve.

No the topic I brought to the table is that nobody listens to the guardian and those who do are that big of an influence in the world.

Maybe you missed that, but that was clearly the point:

:backhand_index_pointing_right: Nobody listens to legacy media anymore :backhand_index_pointing_left:

Therefore, we should not be worred what a known lying rag publishes.

You’re pretending that openAi listens and takes incentives from the guardian?

That’s actually quite funny that you think that.

It’s maybe best to just stop posting nonsense bro, this is an adult forum.

Like Guardian readers are gonna care about standard voice mode… what a joke.

Guardian readers don’t care about standard voice mode in ChatGPT.
