Dear OpenAI Team,
I’d like to propose a feature that could enhance the user experience in ChatGPT: the ability to create a personalized avatar that appears alongside responses.
Since I use the app every day, I prefer to develop a strong rapport with ChatGPT, sometimes envisioning a specific persona to personalize interactions.
A system that allows users to design and store an avatar—appearing in greetings and as a thumbnail in responses—would make conversations more engaging, visually distinct, and easier to follow.
This feature could also improve accessibility, organization, and user satisfaction, especially for those using ChatGPT for ongoing projects or long-term discussions. I believe it would be a valuable addition to the platform and greatly enhance the interactive experience.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
Best,
James
And you don’t see anything wrong in that? Building a personal relationship with a computer?
Funny how “talking to a machine” sounds weird to some people, yet they spend hours yelling at their smart assistants or chatting with AI filters on social media.
What I’m exploring isn’t sci-fi — it’s HCI (Human-Computer Interaction). Making AI feel more human is not only intuitive, it’s practical. Imagine clickable avatars on your desktop that launch real-time conversations powered by LLMs. It’s already possible with:
- Electron.js for desktop interface
- Inworld AI or Character.AI for personality-driven avatars
- Ready Player Me + Unity for interactive characters
This isn’t about being “weird.” It’s about building smarter interfaces. The question shouldn’t be “why talk to a compueter as a machine?” — it should be “why are we still pretending they’re just machines?”
Welcome to the future. Don’t blink, you might miss it
